O Canada (and Glacier Park)

Calgary was cold and rainy and cloudy so that wasn't the best of first impressions, but it's still cool 'cause it's in Canada. Sandeep picked me up from the airport and it was nice to see him again! It's been a whiiile.

We drove around for a while and eventually went to Canada Olympic Park, home of the 1988 Winter Olympics, which I'm familiar with through.. COOL RUNNINGS! I think I know at least 80% of the dialogue in that movie, and it was so awesome to see the actual track they used.

Then we skedaddled out of Calgary and slept at this cute little inn halfway down to the US. I didn't get to spend too much time in Canada, and Sandeep said Alberta is the most like America, so I guess that means I'll have to go again sometime.

Then we drove down towards Waterton Lakes National Park, which, along with Glacier National Park in the US makes Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. Yaaay.

It was lots of plains and grass fields, and it was a pretty pleasant drive.

Then we finally made it down to the park! It was beautiful. Sandeep's never far from his camera, and he's got a lot to show for it. Again, I point to his blog for pictures and stories: www.sandeepayyappan.com .

Hmm.. So that was Wednesday that we arrived at the park. We hiked a lot between there and glacier. We went on 3 big trails and a couple of small ones in 3 days for a total of 23 miles of hiking, so we got to see a lot of the park, which included lots of animals!

We've seen tons of columbian ground squirrels, got really close to a few mountain goats and one bighorn sheep, and even saw a black bear! We camped in a tent for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night, and yesterday left Glacier for good and drove down to Great Falls, Montana, where we spent a night, and today we're in Helena, the great state capital. We're making our way down Montana and getting some rest over the next couple of days, and we're hoping to break into Yellowstone on Tuesday. Gooo National Parks!
